Synthesia Review 2026: AI Video for Ecommerce -- Product Demos, Brand Videos, Training

Synthesia makes polished AI presenter videos from a script, but it is not an ad tool. Here is what ecommerce sellers actually get for $29-89 per month.

MD
Mark Dunne

Most ecommerce sellers who try Synthesia come in expecting a Creatify. They leave with something very different -- a polished presenter video that looks nothing like a paid ad, and a bill that requires careful justification. I tested Synthesia across four brands over three weeks to work out exactly where it fits in an ecommerce stack.

TL;DR verdict

Synthesia produces the most realistic AI presenter videos available at this price point. Avatar quality is consistently high, multilingual dubbing works well, and the editor is fast to learn. But it is not an ad tool -- there is no URL to Video, no Batch Mode, and no built-in ad testing. Best for Amazon sellers building brand store video content, Shopify merchants producing explainer or onboarding videos, and sellers who ship training videos to wholesale accounts. Not the right choice if you need high-volume ad creative variations. See our testing methodology for how we evaluate AI video tools.

How did we evaluate Synthesia?

I tested Synthesia across four brand accounts over 21 days: a supplement brand on Amazon, a home goods store on Shopify, a print-on-demand business, and a wholesale pet products brand that trains retail staff via video. All four use cases are realistic for sellers at different stages.

The evaluation covered avatar realism and consistency across multiple scripts, multilingual output quality (I tested English, Spanish, and French), setup time per video, content moderation behaviour, and rendering reliability across 31 generated videos. I also cross-referenced G2 reviews (4.7/5 from over 2,500 users) and Trustpilot feedback to separate my experience from common patterns.

HeyGen and Fliki are referenced throughout as the two most common alternatives sellers consider. Both are covered in detail below. For a broader look at the AI video landscape, see our guide to best AI video tools for ecommerce.

How does Synthesia pricing work?

PlanMonthly priceAnnual priceVideo per monthPersonal avatarsLanguages
Free$0$010 minutes (watermarked)NoneLimited
Starter$29/mo~$18/mo10 minutes (no watermark)None140+
Creator$89/mo~$64/mo30 minutes5140+
EnterpriseCustomCustomUnlimitedUnlimited140+

The free plan is more useful than it sounds. Ten minutes per month is enough to produce two or three short explainer videos at full resolution -- the catch is watermarks on downloads. For evaluation purposes, it works. For anything you want to publish, you need Starter at minimum.

The Starter-to-Creator jump is steep. You are paying 3x more for 3x the video minutes, plus the ability to create a personal avatar (your own face, cloned from a 2-minute recording). If you do not need a personal avatar and you are producing under 10 minutes of video per month, Starter is genuinely the right choice -- there is no quality difference between the plans, just the volume limit and avatar access.

Annual billing cuts the cost significantly. Creator drops from $89 to $64 per month -- that is 28% off, which matters if you expect this to be a recurring part of your content workflow. Full pricing is on Synthesia's pricing page.

How does Synthesia's avatar quality compare to competitors?

This is where Synthesia genuinely leads the field. The avatars are consistently lifelike at normal viewing distances, with natural blinking, subtle head movement, and lip-sync that rarely misses a beat. I generated 31 videos across the test period and encountered noticeable lip-sync drift in only two -- both on very long sentences over 40 words. That is better than the HeyGen vs Synthesia comparison results I tracked earlier in the year.

The avatar library has around 230 pre-built presenters across different ages, ethnicities, and presentation styles. You are not getting the 1,500-actor library that Creatify Pro offers, but the quality floor is higher. Every Synthesia avatar I tested looked professional at 1080p. That is not true of Creatify's full library, where a significant minority of actors look noticeably artificial.

What does Synthesia do well for ecommerce sellers?

Synthesia

AI presenter videos for product demos, training, and brand content

from $29/mo

Best for: Amazon sellers producing brand store or A+ video content, Shopify merchants explaining complex products, and brands training retail or wholesale staff.

The setup experience is the fastest I have tested across AI video tools. My first script-to-video took 9 minutes, including selecting an avatar, pasting a 120-word product description, and triggering the render. The resulting video needed zero edits before I was happy to share it with the brand account.

What works

  • Avatar realism is the highest of any tool I have tested at this price point -- 229 pre-built presenters, consistent quality across the library
  • 140+ languages with synchronised dubbing (not just subtitles) -- I tested English, Spanish, and French; all three were clean, with natural pacing
  • Video templates cover the most common ecommerce formats: product explainer, unboxing walkthrough, comparison slide, FAQ format, and staff training
  • The script editor is clear, with a per-sentence timing preview so you can see how a long sentence affects delivery before rendering
  • SCORM and LMS export (Enterprise) is genuinely useful for sellers who train wholesale buyers or retail staff via platforms like TalentLMS or Docebo
  • Personal avatar creation (Creator and above) clones your face and voice from a 2-minute recording -- the output is surprisingly accurate and takes 1-2 business days

What does not

  • No URL to Video -- you write every script manually. If you need to generate ads from product pages at scale, Creatify is the better fit
  • Content moderation can flag legitimate commercial content for manual review, adding 12-24 hours of delay with no explanation of what triggered the block. I had two videos held during testing, both for straightforward supplement descriptions
  • Rendering occasionally stalls at 99% and requires a manual refresh. I encountered this three times across 31 videos -- not frequent, but frustrating when it happens
  • No Batch Mode for generating ad variations. You produce one video at a time
  • The free plan watermarks all downloads, so you cannot test quality on a live page without paying
  • Custom avatar creation requires a recorded consent video plus the 2-minute performance clip. Multiple G2 reviews note that avatar training can take 3+ business days during high-demand periods, not the 1-2 days Synthesia advertises

How does Synthesia compare to HeyGen?

HeyGen

AI avatar videos with photo avatar support and strong lip-sync

from $29/mo

Best for: Sellers who need interactive-style content -- talking-head demos where the presenter engages directly with the viewer rather than presenting to them.

HeyGen and Synthesia are the two closest direct comparisons in this category. Starting price is identical at $29 per month. Avatar realism is comparable -- HeyGen's custom Photo Avatar feature (clone an avatar from a single photo) is a meaningful differentiator that Synthesia does not offer at the Starter tier.

What works

  • Photo Avatar generation from a single image -- useful if you want a consistent brand presenter without a full video recording
  • More natural hand gestures on some avatar styles
  • Creator plan at $29/mo is slightly cheaper than Synthesia for equivalent access on annual billing

What does not

  • No SCORM/LMS export -- less useful for wholesale and training use cases
  • Fewer video templates than Synthesia
  • Content moderation is similarly strict, with review delays reported by users

How does Synthesia compare to Fliki?

Fliki

AI video from a script, blog post, or tweet in minutes

from $28/mo

Best for: Sellers who need a fast, low-effort way to turn written content (product descriptions, blog posts, FAQs) into social video -- without a human presenter.

Fliki is a different product. Rather than an AI presenter in front of the camera, Fliki takes your text and generates a narrated slideshow with stock footage, AI voices, and text overlays. The output looks like a social media reel with voiceover, not a presenter video. For some use cases -- a quick TikTok highlighting product features, a YouTube short repurposing a blog post -- Fliki is faster and cheaper. For anything where you need a human-looking presenter, Synthesia is the correct choice.

What works

  • Fastest time from brief to video: I averaged 4 minutes for a 60-second Fliki video vs 9-12 minutes for Synthesia
  • Very strong AI voice library -- 75+ languages, 2,000+ voices including regional accents
  • Repurposes written content well (paste a URL or blog post and it builds a structure automatically)

What does not

  • No human avatar -- the "presenter" is a voiceover with text on screen
  • Stock footage library is extensive but not product-specific; you will need to upload your own imagery for product-focused content
  • Less suitable for brand content where a human face builds trust

Synthesia is the right choice if your goal is brand-quality video content that builds trust -- a product explainer on your Shopify homepage, an FAQ video for your Amazon brand store, or training content for retail partners. It is not the right choice if you need to generate 20 ad variations per product for paid social testing. For that use case, Creatify is faster and cheaper.
