Hiring UGC creators used to be straightforward. You'd brief them, they'd film, you'd edit, and if the hook flopped, you'd start again a week later. Arcads promises to collapse that loop to 20 minutes -- brief an AI actor, generate the video, test a different hook version, done.

I ran it against two real DTC product catalogues over six weeks to see whether the output actually converts, and where it falls apart.

TL;DR verdict

Arcads produces convincing AI actor UGC ads that work well for Meta and TikTok direct-response campaigns -- better than generic avatar tools, worse than a great real creator. At $110/month it is priced for teams already spending on paid social. If you want a cheaper entry point or product-URL-to-video automation, Creatify is the stronger choice. See the /how-we-test page for our testing method.

How did we evaluate Arcads?

I tested Arcads on two brands over six weeks: a supplement label with 14 SKUs and a home goods brand with 6. I generated 31 videos in total, tested 9 across live Meta campaigns with a $40/day budget per creative, and compared click-through rates against a control batch of human UGC ads from the same period.

Creatify and HeyGen were tested in parallel using the same briefs. I excluded Synthesia from this comparison because it targets corporate video, not performance ads -- see HeyGen vs Synthesia for that breakdown.

What does Arcads actually do?

Arcads is an AI UGC ad generator. You paste a product description or a brief, choose an actor from a library of 300+, and the platform writes a script and generates a talking-head video in the style of a TikTok or Reels creator ad.

The core pitch is that AI actors are more natural-looking than generic avatars. That is partly true. The Arcads library includes actors with micro-expressions, natural hand gestures, and varied delivery styles -- the kind of detail that was absent from first-generation AI avatar tools. In a blind test with three people from my network who run paid social, two of them correctly identified the Arcads ads as AI-generated, but all three said they looked more convincing than what they expected from the category.

AI actor video ads for performance marketing teams

from $110/mo

Best for: DTC brands spending $3,000+ per month on Meta or TikTok who want to test hooks at scale without a creator budget.

What works

  • Actor variety is genuine. The 300+ figure is not inflated by minor variations. I found meaningful differences in age, delivery style, energy level, and gesture pattern. Picking the right actor for a supplement ad versus a tech gadget ad is actually possible.
  • Hook variations are fast. Generate three different opening hooks for the same product in about 12 minutes. That kind of A/B structure used to take days when coordinating with real creators.
  • Script generation is surprisingly competent. Paste a product page URL and a one-line brief -- "tired mum, supplement for focus" -- and the output is a workable 30-second hook-body-CTA structure. I edited maybe 40% of the generated scripts, which is less rewriting than I expected.
  • Multi-language output. I tested French and Spanish outputs for a supplement running in Quebec and Mexico. Both were usable without additional editing.

What does not

  • Physical product demos are its biggest gap. Arcads generates talking-head ads. The actor can mention the product, hold a hand gesture, or look at a prop -- but they cannot demonstrate, unbox, or interact with your actual product. For skincare, kitchen tools, or anything where seeing the product in use matters, this limits you to testimonial-style scripts rather than demo-style ads.
  • No free trial. $110 before you have seen a single output is a real ask. Creatify gives you three free videos with no payment details. That gap matters when you are unsure whether AI UGC fits your brand.
  • Per-video credit rounding. On the Starter plan you get a fixed video credit allowance. Short videos use fewer credits, but the billing rounds up to the next credit unit, so a 20-second video costs the same as a 45-second one. I burned through credits faster than expected in the first two weeks.
  • Shopify and Meta integration is manual. You download the video file and upload it to your ad manager yourself. Creatify has a direct Meta Ad Manager connection that saves the transfer step.

How does Creatify compare for ecommerce ads?

Creatify is the more affordable and more ecommerce-specific alternative. At $39/month with a free tier, it is aimed at a wider range of sellers. The product URL import feature -- paste your Shopify or Amazon listing URL, and Creatify pulls images, copy, and product context automatically -- is genuinely faster than Arcads' manual brief workflow.

Creatify

Product URL to video ad in under 5 minutes

from $39/mo

Best for: Sellers who want to turn a product listing into a video ad quickly, especially for Amazon Sponsored Brands or Shopify product pages.

I covered Creatify in detail in the full Creatify review. The short version: better for volume and speed, slightly less convincing actor realism than Arcads at the same brief quality.

What works

  • Product URL import works on Amazon and Shopify listings -- tested on 8 products, pulled accurate copy and images 7 out of 8 times
  • Cheaper entry and free tier make it low-risk to test
  • More ad format variety including slide-show and B-roll style formats

What does not

  • Actor realism is a notch below Arcads in the 15-30 second performance ad format
  • Less useful for complex emotional scripts -- best for straightforward product callouts

How does HeyGen compare for UGC-style video?

HeyGen is not built for performance ads. It is built for explainer videos, product demos, and brand content -- and it is better than Arcads for those use cases. The voice cloning and photo avatar features are strong. The free tier (three videos per month) is also useful for testing.

For the UGC ad format specifically, HeyGen's avatars look more polished but less like a real creator on TikTok -- which can hurt direct-response performance. The HeyGen vs Synthesia comparison covers its broader video use case in detail.

What did the live ad tests show?

My nine live tests on Meta with a $40/day budget produced mixed but directional results. The three Arcads ads I ran had a median CTR of 1.9% over 14 days. My human UGC control batch (four ads, same period, same audiences) had a median CTR of 2.4%. The Arcads ads cost less per creative and ran faster -- brief to live ad in about 25 minutes versus four to seven days for real creators.

Whether 1.9% versus 2.4% matters to you depends on your volume. If you are testing 30 hooks a month, Arcads is faster and cheaper even if each individual ad is slightly less strong. If you are running a small number of proven hero ads, the 0.5 percentage point gap might not be worth the trade-off.

One Arcads ad did outperform all four human UGC ads. It was a simple hook -- "I've been taking this for 30 days" -- delivered by an actor whose age and energy matched the target audience closely. Actor selection matters more than I expected.
