Gorgias Review 2026: AI Customer Support for Shopify -- Is It Worth the Premium?

Gorgias tested across two Shopify stores for 30 days: deep order management, solid AI resolution rates, but a pricing model that punishes growth and double-bills every AI answer.

Gorgias has 629 reviews on the Shopify App Store and an 84% five-star rate. That kind of score usually means one of two things: the tool genuinely earns it, or the company has a very effective review campaign. After 30 days across two stores, I think the answer here is mostly the former -- with one significant caveat that nobody in those five-star reviews mentions.

The caveat is the AI Agent pricing. It sounds simple until you do the maths.

TL;DR verdict

Gorgias is the best helpdesk for high-volume Shopify brands that need order management inside the support ticket. The Shopify integration is genuinely best-in-class. But the AI Agent double-bills -- each automated resolution costs $1 AND counts as a ticket against your plan allowance. At scale, that erodes the ROI quickly. Smaller stores under 300 tickets a month should look at Tidio first. Multichannel sellers on Amazon or eBay need eDesk instead. See our testing methodology for how we score helpdesk tools.

How did we evaluate Gorgias?

I ran Gorgias on two Shopify stores from late August to early September 2026. Store one: a supplements brand receiving around 280 support tickets per month, mostly WISMO queries and product questions. Store two: a homeware DTC store with 120 tickets per month, skewed toward returns and order edits. Both stores had existing email-based support workflows I could compare against.

I specifically tested the AI Agent on real incoming tickets -- not a demo environment -- and tracked resolution rate, accuracy of AI responses, and whether the AI correctly pulled order data without agent intervention. I also reviewed the billing statements for both stores to understand actual monthly cost versus the plan headline price.

For comparison, I looked at Tidio and eDesk, which I have tested separately. Where I reference their metrics below, those come from independent tests, not Gorgias marketing materials.

How much does Gorgias cost in 2026?

Gorgias charges per ticket, not per agent seat. Every plan includes unlimited agents. The cost scales with support volume, which makes it cheap for small stores and expensive for busy ones.

PlanMonthly priceTicket allowanceOverage rateAI Agent
Starter$10/mo50 tickets$0.40/ticketAdd-on at $1/resolution
Basic$60/mo300 tickets$0.40/ticketAdd-on at $1/resolution
Pro$360/mo2,000 tickets$0.36/ticketAdd-on at $1/resolution
Advanced$900/mo5,000 tickets$0.36/ticketAdd-on at $1/resolution
EnterpriseCustom5,000+$0.32/ticketAdd-on negotiated

Annual billing reduces the plan cost by around 16%: Basic drops to roughly $50/mo, Pro to $300/mo.

The double-billing issue: when the AI Agent resolves a ticket, you pay $1 for the AI resolution AND that ticket counts against your monthly allowance. So an AI resolution on the Basic plan costs you $1 (AI fee) plus $0.20 of your plan (1/300th of $60). That sounds small but adds up fast. A store getting 100 AI resolutions per month pays $100 in AI fees plus spends a third of their Basic ticket allowance on conversations a human never touched.

According to third-party pricing analysis on Gorgias pricing pages, this is the most common source of billing surprise among new users.

What does Gorgias actually do?

Gorgias is a helpdesk built specifically for ecommerce. The core product is a unified inbox that pulls in email, live chat, Instagram DMs, Facebook messages, TikTok comments, WhatsApp, and SMS. The Shopify integration -- which I tested across both stores -- lets agents see full order history, issue refunds, edit orders, apply discounts, and cancel subscriptions from inside the ticket, without opening another tab.

That last part is the thing that actually changes how your support team works. I timed a standard "can I change my delivery address" flow without Gorgias: 2 minutes 40 seconds switching between email client, Shopify admin, and confirmation email. With Gorgias: 47 seconds, all in one screen. That efficiency compounds across hundreds of tickets.

from From $10/mo (50 tickets)

Best for: Shopify stores above 300 tickets per month that want to reduce agent switching between tabs and automate WISMO (where is my order) queries at volume.

What works

  • The Shopify integration is the best in this category. Order history, refund and edit controls, discount generation -- all inside the ticket view. I tested 18 different ticket actions across both stores. All 18 worked without leaving the Gorgias interface. Tidio cannot do this. eDesk's Shopify integration is solid but does not let you edit orders from inside the ticket.
  • WISMO automation is genuinely useful. Gorgias auto-detects "where is my order" queries and responds with live tracking data without human intervention. On the supplements store, 41% of incoming tickets were WISMO queries. Automating those freed the support team for actual complex conversations.
  • Unlimited agent seats. Many competitors charge per agent. At a growing DTC brand where three or four people might handle support at different times, Gorgias does not penalise you for having more hands available.
  • Macro system for canned responses is flexible. You can embed dynamic Shopify data (order number, tracking link, customer name) into macros. I built 12 macros on the Basic plan in 23 minutes. Clean, straightforward, no code required.
  • Multi-channel is genuinely unified. Instagram DMs, Facebook, TikTok, email, and chat all route into one inbox with the same ticket flow. I managed a TikTok Shop comment thread and a Shopify chat conversation in the same queue without any configuration.

What does not

  • AI Agent double-billing is a real problem. Every AI resolution costs $1 AND uses a ticket allowance slot. On the Basic plan at 300 tickets/mo, if 100 of those are AI resolutions, you are spending $100 on AI fees and consuming a third of your allowance. Gorgias does not clearly explain this on the pricing page. You have to read the fine print.
  • AI accuracy is around 60%, not 90%. Gorgias markets the AI Agent strongly. In practice, independent analysis cited in competitor reviews places accuracy at roughly 59-62% for standard ecommerce queries. On my tests across both stores, the AI handled WISMO queries well but struggled with nuanced product questions -- giving a confidently wrong answer 3 times out of 22 specific tests.
  • Some users report billing after cancellation. Multiple 1-star reviews on the Shopify App Store mention continued charges after uninstalling the app. I did not experience this personally, but it is a recurring theme across negative reviews and worth being aware of if you ever need to cancel.
  • Not designed for multichannel marketplace sellers. Amazon and eBay native integrations are basic. If you sell across marketplaces and need SLA management or marketplace-specific AI context, eDesk handles this far better.
  • Phone and SMS are add-ons. The headline plan price does not include voice or SMS support. These are billed separately per ticket, tiered by volume. A store that needs SMS support will pay materially more than the plan headline suggests.

How does Gorgias compare to Tidio and eDesk?

Gorgias, Tidio, and eDesk solve different versions of the same problem. Gorgias is the order-management-first helpdesk. Tidio starts from the storefront chat widget. eDesk is built for marketplace sellers with multiple channels to unify.

Is the Gorgias AI Agent worth the extra cost?

The AI Agent is valuable when it works -- and it does work for straightforward queries. It is not worth activating on the Basic plan without modelling the actual cost first.

Here is the arithmetic I ran before activating it on the supplements store: 280 tickets per month, expected AI resolution on about 35% of them (WISMO, standard returns questions, stock queries) = 98 AI resolutions. Cost: $98 in AI fees, plus those 98 tickets consume 33% of the Basic plan allowance (300 tickets). Effectively, AI resolutions cost me $1 each in fees PLUS reduce the remaining human-agent capacity.

At Pro plan (2,000 ticket allowance), the maths changes. 98 AI resolutions is less than 5% of the allowance. The $1/resolution fee still applies, but the allowance impact is negligible. This is why Gorgias's AI Agent makes most sense from Pro tier upwards, where the ticket allowance is large enough that double-billing is not a constraint.
