TxtCart Review 2026: AI Conversational SMS That Recovers Abandoned Carts

TxtCart uses AI to hold two-way text conversations with shoppers who abandon carts -- answering product questions in real time. Tested across two Shopify stores to see if the conversational edge justifies the performance pricing.

Most SMS tools send a message, wait, and send another one. TxtCart does something different: it starts a conversation. A shopper leaves a cart, gets a text, and can reply asking whether their size is in stock. The AI answers. They buy.

I spent three weeks testing TxtCart across two Shopify stores -- one supplements brand and one homeware DTC -- to work out whether that conversational angle actually drives materially better results than a standard SMS sequence, and whether the unusual pricing model is worth the risk.

TL;DR verdict

TxtCart's conversational AI genuinely sets it apart from broadcast SMS tools. The Starter plan (free plus 15% commission on recovered sales) is low-risk for smaller stores. At scale, that commission erodes margins fast -- the Pro plan at $299/mo plus 2.5% makes more sense above roughly £15,000/mo in TxtCart-attributed revenue. If you already run Klaviyo SMS, you probably do not need both. See our testing methodology for how we evaluate SMS tools.

How did we evaluate TxtCart?

I ran TxtCart on two Shopify stores from early to mid-August 2026. Store one: a supplements brand with an average order value of £62 and around 140 abandoned carts per week. Store two: a homeware brand with a £94 AOV and 60-70 weekly abandonments. Both had existing Klaviyo email flows running for cart recovery -- I isolated SMS attribution using a 24-hour attribution window.

For comparison, I looked at Postscript (Shopify's most popular dedicated SMS tool) and Klaviyo SMS (the tool most of you are already using for email). Neither replaces TxtCart's conversational capability exactly, but both are genuine alternatives depending on your setup.

How does TxtCart's pricing work?

PlanMonthly feeRevenue commissionWhat changes
Starter$0/mo15% of attributed salesCore cart recovery, basic campaigns
Pro$299/mo2.5% of attributed salesCampaigns, flows, segmentation, priority support
EnterpriseCustomCustomDedicated CSM, custom AI training, multi-brand

The commission model is the most unusual thing about TxtCart and the most divisive. On one hand, you pay nothing if it delivers nothing -- there is a real performance alignment. On the other hand, "attributed sales" is a number TxtCart controls the definition of, and a 15% cut on every recovered cart adds up quickly.

At £62 AOV with a 30% SMS recovery rate on 140 weekly abandonments, TxtCart would attribute roughly £2,600/week in sales and take £390 of it on the Starter plan. That is not cheap. The Pro plan at $299/mo plus 2.5% becomes cheaper once attributed monthly revenue exceeds approximately £12,000.

All plans come with a 14-day free trial. The 10X ROI guarantee (or money back) is a genuine commitment -- I tested their support team's handling of it and they were transparent about eligibility criteria.

What does TxtCart actually do?

TxtCart integrates with Shopify in about 12 minutes. I timed it. You connect the store, configure your opt-in pop-up, set a minimum cart value threshold (I used £30), and the AI takes over. It handles abandoned cart messages, answers questions in real time, and can send campaign broadcasts to your subscriber list.

The core differentiator is the AI conversation layer. A standard SMS tool sends: "Hey, you left something in your cart. Here is your 10% code." TxtCart sends the same opener but when the customer replies "Does this come in a larger bottle?" -- the AI answers using your product catalogue and FAQs. I tested this with 22 specific product queries across both stores. It handled 17 correctly on the first reply, asked a clarifying question on 3, and got 2 factually wrong (both edge cases involving a discontinued variant). That 77% first-reply accuracy is solid for an AI system handling real product questions.

Best for: Shopify stores with high-consideration products (supplements, beauty, fashion, homeware) where customers have questions before buying, and where a 24-hour human support team would be impractical to staff.

What works

  • Conversational recovery is genuinely better for high-consideration products. On the supplements store, the AI handled "does this interact with metformin?" by linking to our FAQ and recommending a doctor consultation -- the kind of deflection that avoids liability and still recovers the sale (they bought after 4 messages). Manual SMS workflows cannot do this.
  • Setup is fast. 12 minutes from install to first live flow. The Shopify integration pulled in product data, pricing, and existing customer profiles without a CSV import.
  • Attribution reporting is transparent. You can see exactly which conversations led to purchases, with timestamps and message logs. Some attribution tools obscure this -- TxtCart does not.
  • The 10X ROI guarantee is real. I reviewed the terms. It applies to the first 30 days and requires a minimum subscriber list size, but it is not a hollow marketing claim.
  • Compliance is handled automatically. TCPA-compliant opt-in flows, quiet hours, and unsubscribe processing are all built in. I did not have to configure any of this manually.

What does not

  • The 15% commission is expensive at scale. Once you are recovering £20,000/month in SMS-attributed revenue, you are paying £3,000 to TxtCart monthly. The Pro plan exists for this reason, but you have to plan the upgrade proactively -- the commission model punishes fast growth on the Starter plan.
  • Shopify only. No WooCommerce, Magento, or Wix. If you run multi-platform, you are stuck.
  • AI gets product queries wrong sometimes. The 77% first-reply accuracy is good, not great. For stores with complex products or strict regulatory environments (pharmaceuticals, medical devices), the AI's errors could be more than inconvenient.
  • Subscriber growth tools are limited on Starter. The pop-up builder works, but A/B testing opt-in flows requires the Pro plan. Building a list on Starter is slower.
  • No native email integration. TxtCart is SMS-only. If you want coordinated email-plus-SMS flows, you still need Klaviyo or Postscript running alongside it -- which raises the total platform cost.

How does TxtCart compare to Postscript?

Postscript is the other Shopify-native SMS specialist. It is a broadcast-first platform with strong segmentation and compliance tools, built for brands that want to run SMS campaigns at volume. TxtCart is conversation-first. The gap is meaningful.

For stores focused on campaigns and segmentation, Postscript wins. For stores where the buying decision requires a conversation -- where customers actually reply to SMS messages with questions -- TxtCart wins. The Postscript vs Klaviyo SMS comparison has more detail on how Postscript stacks up against email-native alternatives.

How does TxtCart compare to Klaviyo SMS?

Klaviyo SMS is an add-on to Klaviyo's email platform. If you already use Klaviyo for email flows, adding SMS costs around $20/mo at low volume and scales with message sends. The integration with email is Klaviyo's real advantage -- you can trigger SMS in response to email engagement (or non-engagement) from a single workflow builder.

TxtCart does not have that. If you run Klaviyo for email and want SMS as a coordinated channel, Klaviyo SMS is the more logical choice. You do not need two platforms. The conversation capability you lose is real, but most SMS recipients do not reply to recovery messages -- they either buy or they do not. The question is what percentage of your abandoners are on the fence because of an unanswered question. For fashion and supplements, that number is higher than for commodity products.

The Klaviyo AI features guide covers what Klaviyo's built-in AI can do on the email side -- worth reading alongside this if you are evaluating the full platform.

What real sellers are saying about TxtCart

TxtCart holds a 4.9 rating on the Shopify App Store with 94% of reviews at 5 stars. The consistent positives: fast setup, responsive support, and real recovered revenue. The consistent negatives: the commission model feels expensive once revenue picks up, and the billing structure surprised some users who did not read the pricing page carefully.

A critical G2 reviewer noted: "Be wary of this platform -- they charge commission rates." That is accurate and worth understanding before you install. TxtCart is transparent about this, but the performance billing model is not standard for SMS tools, and it catches some merchants off guard.

External benchmark: Klaviyo's SMS ROI report documents industry average recovered revenue per SMS at $8-12. TxtCart's own case studies reference 10X ROI benchmarks, though these are self-reported and measured on their attribution model. G2's TxtCart reviews provide more independent context.
