What Does Klaviyo Do?
Klaviyo is an email and SMS marketing platform that pulls data directly from your Shopify store - purchase history, browsing behaviour, cart activity - and uses it to send targeted messages. The integration is deeper than any competitor, which is why it has become the default choice for Shopify stores.
You build email flows (abandoned cart, post-purchase, winback) and campaigns (promotions, launches, newsletters) using a drag-and-drop editor. The segmentation engine is where Klaviyo really separates itself - you can target customers based on what they bought, when they bought it, how much they spent, what they browsed, and dozens of other data points.

Amazon integration barely exists
If you sell on Amazon alongside Shopify, Klaviyo is almost no help for the Amazon side. The integration is minimal and Amazon does not share the customer data Klaviyo needs.
Email editor feels dated
Building emails from scratch involves too many clicks. The drag-and-drop editor works but is not as smooth as competitors like Omnisend. Once your templates are set, it is fine.

Who Should Avoid Klaviyo?
Amazon-only sellers
Klaviyo needs Shopify (or similar) customer data to work. Amazon does not share this data. If Amazon is your only channel, Klaviyo offers almost nothing.
Very small stores watching every dollar
At $45/month for just 500 contacts, the cost adds up before your email list is big enough to generate meaningful revenue. Free alternatives exist if budget is the priority.
Sellers who want simple newsletters only
If you just want to send a monthly newsletter, Klaviyo is overkill. Kit (ConvertKit) or Mailchimp handle basic newsletters at lower cost with less complexity.
