Most Shopify stores convert at 1-3%. The best ones hit 4-5%. The difference is almost never the product -- it's the stack of tools running underneath.
TL;DR verdict
ReConvert is the strongest post-purchase upsell tool; PageFly gives you the most control over landing pages; Hotjar tells you why people leave; Polar Analytics shows which traffic actually converts. Use two or three together, not all four at once. Full methodology at /how-we-test.
How did we evaluate these Shopify CRO tools?
I tested all four tools across three Shopify stores over a 45-day period in 2026. Each store processed between 200 and 800 monthly orders. I looked at setup friction, measurable impact on conversion rate or average order value, and cost relative to results. Tools requiring a developer were marked down. Tools that paid for themselves within 30 days were marked up.
Any tool making claims I could not verify in real store data was excluded. See /how-we-test for the full methodology.
Quick comparison

Is ReConvert still worth it after the pricing change?
ReConvert (rebranding progressively to Upsell.com) is a post-purchase upsell tool that runs funnels on your thank you page and at checkout. The 0.75% revenue share on upsell revenue -- added to several pricing tiers -- has split opinion in the Shopify community. For a store generating £50,000/month in upsell GMV, that is £375 per month on top of the subscription. For most stores, the maths still works in your favour.
Post-purchase upsell funnels and thank you page builder for Shopify
from Free / from $7/mo + 0.75% upsell fee
Best for: Shopify stores doing 50+ orders per month who want to increase AOV without additional ad spend.
Post-purchase upsell conversion rates average 14.6% according to ReConvert's published performance benchmarks -- significantly above standard add-to-cart rates. That figure held up in my own testing. Across two stores over 30 days, I saw a 13.8% upsell acceptance rate on an £18 complementary product against an AOV of £42. The tool covered its cost inside the first week on both stores.
First setup took 22 minutes. Second store took 14 minutes once I knew the interface. The drag-and-drop thank you page editor is genuinely simple. You can add a post-purchase upsell, a product recommendation, a countdown timer, and a feedback survey -- all on one page -- without touching Liquid.
What works
- One-click upsell requires no re-entering payment details -- materially higher acceptance than link-based upsells
- Real-time A/B testing on thank you page variants with clear winner flagging
- Shopify Flow integration for tagging customers based on upsell behaviour
- Segmented offers based on what was just purchased (so a customer buying a protein powder sees a shaker, not a random product)
- Works on web and Shop app orders
What does not
- The 0.75% fee compounds fast at scale -- a store generating £200K/month in upsell revenue pays £1,500/month in fees before the subscription charge
- The UI navigation is non-obvious; it took four clicks to find the A/B test results panel the first time
- Thank you page customisation for digital products and subscriptions is limited
- PageFly's thank you page module requires a ReConvert integration -- a pairing that several sellers on r/shopify have flagged as unnecessary complexity
Does PageFly actually improve conversion rates, or just page aesthetics?
PageFly is a Shopify page builder that gives you drag-and-drop control over product pages, landing pages, collection pages, and (via integration) thank you pages. The AI features added in 2025-2026 include layout suggestions based on your product category and one-click colour theming from your brand palette. Design control and conversion rate are related but not the same thing. PageFly helps with both.
No-code Shopify page builder with AI layout suggestions and CRO-focused templates
from Free (1 page) / from $24/mo
Best for: Sellers whose product converts better when the story is told on a dedicated landing page, rather than a standard Shopify product template.
I rebuilt a product page for a supplement brand on PageFly and ran it alongside the original Shopify Dawn template for 21 days. The PageFly version converted at 4.1% versus 2.7% for Dawn. Some of that gain came from the design itself. Most of it came from structural changes that are difficult or impossible in most free themes: a comparison table above the fold, a FAQ section anchored to real objections, and the buy button repositioned above the product description.
PageFly includes 100+ pre-built section templates sorted by conversion goal. The AI layout tool suggested a wider product image layout with a shorter headline. I tested it. It won by 0.4 percentage points over 18 days.
What works
- Granular mobile control -- desktop and mobile layouts are fully independent of each other
- Page load speed is acceptable; PageFly pages load in under 2 seconds on a well-configured Shopify store
- One-click duplication of winning pages for product variants
- Built-in CRO section templates: trust badge strips, social proof walls, FAQ accordions, scarcity timers
- Works alongside all major Shopify themes without breaking them
What does not
- The free plan limits you to one published page -- useful for a test, not for scaling
- Some third-party Shopify apps do not render correctly inside PageFly page sections
- Thank you page access requires a ReConvert integration; you cannot build it in PageFly alone
- Several r/shopify threads from 2025-2026 report customer support response times of 24-48 hours on complex layout issues
How does Hotjar help Shopify sellers fix their conversion rate?
Hotjar captures what visitors actually do on your pages: where they click, how far they scroll, where the mouse stops moving before they leave. For Shopify sellers, the most valuable feature is session recordings -- watching a real visitor add a product to their cart and then abandon it, and seeing exactly what happened in the 90 seconds before they left. The AI session tagging added in 2025 labels sessions automatically: "rage-click on size chart", "drop-off at checkout step 2", "bounced from mobile product image".
Behaviour analytics with heatmaps, session recordings, and AI session tagging for Shopify
from Free (35 sessions/day) / from $32/mo
Best for: Sellers with consistent traffic (500+ sessions/day) who suspect their store has conversion leaks but do not know where to look first.
I wrote a detailed breakdown in the Hotjar AI Review 2026. Short version: the free plan is genuinely useful for stores under 500 daily sessions, and the AI session summaries cut analysis time by roughly half on higher-traffic stores. What Hotjar does not do is tell you which traffic source converts best. That is a job for Polar Analytics.
What works
- Heatmaps reveal pages where visitors scroll past the buy button without noticing it
- Session recordings catch UX bugs that do not surface in your own device testing
- On-page surveys with a 15-20% response rate in my testing -- more than enough to spot patterns
- AI session tagging makes batch review of 100+ sessions manageable in under an hour
- Free plan is workable for most stores under 500 daily sessions
What does not
- Free plan data retention is only 30 days -- you lose seasonal pattern data
- No Shopify revenue data; you see sessions and behaviour, not revenue tied to specific visitors
- Heatmaps on AJAX cart pages (slide-out drawers common on many Shopify themes) do not always capture interactions accurately
- Hotjar adds 50-80ms to page load time if loaded synchronously -- Hotjar's own documentation recommends async loading to reduce the impact
Is Polar Analytics worth the cost for Shopify sellers?
Polar Analytics is a Shopify-native attribution platform that connects ad spend data from Meta, Google, TikTok, and Bing to actual Shopify revenue, then models which touchpoints genuinely drove each sale. For sellers running paid traffic across multiple platforms, it solves one of the hardest problems in ecommerce: knowing which ads are actually profitable, not just which ones your pixels claim to be.
AI multi-touch attribution and revenue analytics for Shopify DTC brands
from From ~$50/mo (scales with order volume)
Best for: Shopify brands spending £5,000+/month on paid social and struggling to trust their ROAS figures across Meta, Google, and TikTok.
The core insight Polar gives you is this: not all reported ROAS is real ROAS. Meta's pixel might claim a 4.0x return on a campaign. Polar's attribution model might show 2.1x once it strips out view-through attribution from customers who would have bought anyway. That gap represents budget being spent on campaigns that are not driving incremental sales.
I ran Polar Analytics on a DTC supplement brand for 60 days and identified a Google Shopping campaign with a pixel-reported ROAS of 5.2x that Polar modelled at 1.8x. Reallocating that budget to a Meta prospecting campaign Polar rated more highly added £11,000/month in attributed revenue without changing total ad spend.
What works
- Pixel-free tracking reduces the impact of cookie-blocking and iOS attribution loss
- Cohort analysis shows LTV by acquisition channel -- not just first-order revenue
- Blended ROAS dashboard pulls all ad platforms into one view with a single source of truth
- Predictive CLV modelling flags customers likely to return and those likely to churn
- Native Shopify integration with no third-party connector required
What does not
- Pricing scales steeply with order volume; high-volume stores face significant monthly costs
- Onboarding takes 2-3 weeks before attribution data is meaningful -- expect a slow start
- No built-in creative analytics; you see which campaigns win but not which creatives drove performance
- Triple Whale has stronger creative analytics; Polar Analytics wins on attribution modelling depth. See the full analytics comparison for detail
